I’m still LOST

h1 Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Warning: if you don’t watch the show, skip this post. It won’t hurt my feelings.

So I’ve lost my LOST-watching buddy. I’ll miss you Ragan. You totally kept up with the show better than me.

Now I watch it by myself and talk out loud to myself while it’s playing. It’s very sad really. I love this show but I hate this show. It requires too much brain power but yet, I’ve been watching since the very first episode and I will keep watching until the last.

So for my LOST buddies, check out the two alternate endings they shot:

Questions and Assumptions:

1. Charlotte is Annie. Remember Ben’s little girlfriend? But how did she escape the genocide?
2. Do you think Sun has gone evil on us or is she a double agent? I’m wary of her and Widmore.
3. If Locke was in the casket, does that mean he had to move the island again thus the reason he’s back on the mainland?
4. I wonder if the forces of the island reached out to sea - meaning that Daniel and his boat went with it.
5. Jin cannot be dead. I just won’t believe it.
6. I still don’t get who the Others are and why they don’t age and why they need a leader.
7. If Claire is showing up in the dreams, does that mean she’s dead? All the other people making appearances are.
8. Where did Sayid take Hurley? Where the heck is safe?

Discuss.

Que’d Out

h1 Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

There is such a thing as too much barbeque and I think I have officially reached that point.

I went to a friend’s house for Memorial Day this year and you would have thought it was Meatfest 2008. I have never seen so much pork in one place that wasn’t a restaurant. They had short ribs, regular ribs, Boston butt, dry-rubbed meat, smoked meat, sauced meat and pretty much anything else you can imagine.

And of course that was just the meat portion of the menu. Don’t forget the sides such as slaw, potato salad, bread, deviled eggs, baked beans and for dessert homemade ice cream.

It was fantastic but then we ended up having it again for dinner last night. My poor stomach can’t handle all that two nights in a row. I’ve been paying for it today. I’m sticking to yogurt and Lean Cuisines. I’m pretty sure I need a barbeque detox.

Indiana Jones vs. Iron Man

h1 Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I saw two movies today. I haven’t been to the movies in months but one day is all it takes to break the odds.

First up was Indiana Jones with my friend Janie. Very fun movie and classic Indy. I had some issues with the story this time around (like did it really have to be aliens?) and with how I’m not supposed to notice Harrison Ford is wearing old man pants. You know the kind - huge pleats with a low inseam. But all in all it was exactly what I expected Indiana Jones to be - fun.

Second movie was Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr. playing engineer Tony Stark. I had heard quite a bit about this movie but didn’t really know the story behind it as well as other superhero movies. If you’re interested, you can read more about him here. D. was back in town with his buddy Bush (which is like having Tweedledee and Tweedledum over for the night) and they wanted to see it.

That was one awesome movie. I highly recommend it to everybody. Especially you Mr. Smith (I know you read this). It’s total engineer geekdom come to life. It even makes me want to build something or weld something or smelt something or smash something. The special effects were amazing and I was on the edge of my seat through at least 3/4 of the movie.

So sorry Indy, but Tony Stark comes out on top of this battle. Maybe next time.

American Idol is spying on me

h1 Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

After just watching a fast-forwarded version of the American Idol finale, I’m pretty sure that someone has been spying on my iPod over at Fox. Because every featured song and artist tonight can be found in my playlist. How many people can say that?

Proof:

Donna Summer - 70s queen sang Last Dance
George Michael - Faith and Father Figure? How awesome.
ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man
Graham Nash - Teach Your Children Well
Gladys Knight and the Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia (Best Song Ever!)
Bryan Adams - Summer of ‘69 and Heaven
Carrie Underwood - Last Name

Thankfully I do NOT have any Jonas Brothers on my iPod. I am not 13.

Short aside: Bryan Adams was my first musician crush that did not involve a boy band. New Kids on the Block does not count. I remember when the Robin Hood movie came out and that fabulous song “Everything I Do (I Do It for You)” was playing on the radio every ten minutes. Loved it. And if the video came on VH1, I was totally there. Mullet and all. Man I loved that song.

Sadly it was not sung tonight. But I still want to know who’s been spying on me. Because honestly, that’s a little creepy.

And David Cook won! Not the little hobbit-looking David Archuleta - who was very good but very young. And Cook is dreamy - I hope I never meet a rocker. I might have problems.

In honor of his win, David Cook singing the awesome U2 song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”!

Lessons learned from my nephew

h1 Monday, May 19th, 2008

Here are 10 things I learned from Isaiah this past weekend:

10. RiRi is a total pushover.
9. If something has buttons, it is meant to be pushed. Phones, remote controls, Playstation controllers - you get the drift.
8. When you’re tired, there is nothing wrong with laying down in the floor - even if it’s in the middle of a store.
7. There is nothing more fun than empty paper towel tubes.
6. Turning the dishwasher on and off is a fun game.
5. You can never have too many stuffed animals.
4. Trucks must be pushed while making a “beep beep” sound. Otherwise it’s not a truck.
3. Food tastes better when it’s all smushed together.
2. If you’re sitting at the table, it’s time to eat.
1. RiRi can’t say no to that puppy dog look. When the lip sticks out and his eyes get wide, it’s over.

Adventures in babysitting part two: electric boogaloo

h1 Sunday, May 18th, 2008

So that whole thing about me wearing Isaiah out? It worked pretty opposite of that.

Little dude woke up at 6 AM yesterday morning and I was betting on a decent nap for Aunt RiRi to recuperate. Not so much. How about an hour nap and up with more energy than he had in the morning. Needless to say last night we ALL slept well.

But the phone rang at 10:45 and I was sound asleep. I vaguely heard it ring and then my mom’s voice comes through my answering machine - “Lori, it’s mom. Pick up the phone.” She was calling to check in from Cambodia and we chatted for about five minutes. I would have sworn I dreamt it except that she was on the answering machine this morning. D. and Corrie never even heard the phone ring.

Today is a lazy Sunday. D. says he needs to study but I’m going to watch the Braves game and $10 says he plops on the other couch.
