Take me out to the ballgame

h1 Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I’ve missed baseball. It’s nice to have it back. I’m sitting here watching the Atlanta Braves vs. the Washington Nationals at the new ballpark in Washington DC. Looks gorgeous and of course they’re making a big deal out of it.

But honestly, if Jon Miller tells me one more time that FDR has thrown out the most first pitches as president (8 in case you’re wondering) I may throw something at the TV. He has been repeating the same stats for the past hour and a half. Please factchecker, give him some new material.

And enough with the shots of the Lincoln Memorial. We get it. You’re in DC.

An AIM conversation

h1 Friday, March 28th, 2008

Between my brother and myself:

Me: Did you see that e-mail I sent you earlier today?

D.: Yeah, I read that article. That’s just crazy.

Me: I was just talking to Steven [our cousin] and he is very excited. He said he will probably go hear him.

D.: Very disturbing. Not at all an attempt at conservative right wing indoctrination. And it’s Chuck Norris. Really?

Me: Well your commencement speaker was that guy from the Herbie movies in the 60s.

D.: That was totally different.

Me: Whatever.

I’m not useless

So for some reason, my family thinks I can’t use a tape measure. Nanny and Papa are coming this weekend and Papa is going to lay the transition strip in my kitchen. You know, from when my new floor was laid by my brother. Last year.

D. is appalled that it has taken this long for transition strip to be put down. I think the blue painter’s tape that I was using was just fine.

But back to the tape measure. I measured the area and told Dad that I need a 36 inch piece and a 30 inch piece. So what does he do? He gives Papa a 12 foot piece. Um not exactly correct.

So Papa calls and asks if he should cut it here and bring the whole piece and I said no, I measured it already and I need a 36 inch piece and 30 inch piece. “No more, no less?” he asks. “Should I bring extra?”

Sure, bring extra. Because I can’t read a tape measure.

Six things I’m looking forward to

h1 Thursday, March 13th, 2008

1. I’m headed to Washington DC tomorrow for a weekend business trip. Weather is supposed to be beautiful and I love DC. I love the energy, the history and the beauty of it all. It will be fun to be out of town for a few days in a place I enjoy so much.

2. Dancing With The Stars starts Monday night! I love it! The sequins! The tight pants! Tom Bergeron! Every year I watch it and say I’m going to head to Fred Astaire for lessons and it never happens. I think I’m afraid of what partner I could get.

3. March Madness baby! Tis the time of year for the greatest sporting event on Earth - NCAA Final Four. I love filling out brackets and keeping track of the Cinderella teams and the fall of the mighty. By the way, if anyone out there wants to join my Braggin’ Rights 2008 bracket, shoot me an e-mail.

4. I’m also looking forward to my body finally catching up with daylight savings time. I don’t know why but this time change kicked my butt this year. Hopefully my being overly tired will change soon. Honestly, I could go to bed at 7 every night.

5. Easter Candy Sale! I love me some Reese’s Peanut Butter eggs - especially when they’re 75% off.

6. A haircut. I’m starting to look a bit shaggy and I finally made an appointment for the middle of April. By then I should be completely shagariffic.

It’s a small world after all

Meet the Leningrad Cowboys and the Red Army Choir. And I just don’t have anymore words to describe it. See for yourself.

Snow!

h1 Friday, March 7th, 2008

Maybe, possibly, I don’t know. Weatherman says we could get over an inch tonight and of course everyone in my office is talking about how this is the anniversary of the big blizzard of 1993.

I’ll believe it when I see it. And I don’t mind snow as long as I can still go somewhere. D., Corrie and Isaiah are visiting this weekend and as much as I love them, my condo is very small.
